PayPal accepted?

As of 18 October, we no longer accept PayPal as a form of Payment.  This action is a result of Paypal’s refusal to process our payments because of their ‘Brand Risk’ Department who sent us the following message.  As a result, we will be navigating away from PayPal.  We still accept all major credit cards, and we’ll continue to seek PayPal alternatives which offer our customers secure transactions and ease of use.

Dear Xxxx Xxxxxxxxx,
We have recently reviewed your PayPal account activity and determined that
you are in violation of PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy regarding your sales
or offers on http://www.monmouthreloading.com.

Please refer to transaction/s: xxxxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxx
As a result, your account has been limited temporarily.

To help us resolve this, you will need to:
– Remove those items from http://www.monmouthreloading.com that violate
PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy. Example/s: Ammunition, Upper Receivers.
– Submit the online Acceptable Use Policy affidavit. Here’s how: Log in to
your PayPal account and go to our Resolution Center. Click “Resolve” under
“Acceptable Use Policy.” Please read the content of the PayPal User
Agreement and type “I agree” and/or click “Agree.”

Instead of having to remove certain items or PayPal altogether, you may
choose the following alternative/s:
– Split your payments on http://www.monmouthreloading.com. This means that
you will need to remove or deactivate PayPal as a payment option for the
violating items outlined above. In this case, PayPal would only be
permitted as a payment option on those items that are in compliance with
our Acceptable Use Policy.
The PayPal User Agreement, which you read and accepted when you created
your account, states that PayPal, at its sole discretion, reserves the
right to limit an account for any violation of the PayPal User Agreement,
including the Acceptable Use Policy.

Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal at its discretion, may not be used
to send or receive payments for firearms or weapons, which include but are
not limited to:
Firearms – Includes all rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they are
intended for use in sporting, as collectibles, or as curio and relic
firearms. These items are prohibited regardless of their present working
order.
Firearm parts – Includes, but is not limited to, receivers and frames,
silencers, kits designed to convert a firearm to automatic firing
capability, a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds, multi-burst
trigger activators and camouflaging firearm containers.
Ammunition – Includes ammunition with propellant, such as gunpowder or
blank ammunition. Ammunition is defined as ammunition or cartridge cases,
primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.
PayPal allows transactions for paintball guns, blank guns, and air-soft
guns as permitted by law in the applicable jurisdiction. These items must
display all markings required by law, must not be convertible to shoot a
lethal projectile, and must not include blank ammunition.

You can view the complete PayPal Acceptable Use Policy by clicking the
“Legal” link at the bottom of any PayPal page and clicking “PayPal
Acceptable Use Policy”. You can also find some more information on the
PayPal Acceptable Use Policy on our Help Center.
This is not intended to be an all-inclusive review or list of your
website/s and auction/s. Furthermore, the violations of the Policy
described above are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. The user is
responsible for ensuring all transactions comply with the Acceptable Use
Policy.
For more information about the status of your account and for instructions
on how to restore full use of your account, please log in to your PayPal
account and select the “Resolution Center” link. On the next page select
the “Resolve” button/s located under the Action column, in the Steps to
Provide More Information section and follow the applicable instructions.
We encourage you to login and resolve this as soon as possible. Should
access to your account remain limited for an extended period of time, it
may result in a permanent limitation.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. If you have any
questions, please contact the PayPal Brand Risk Management Department at
aup@paypal.com.
Sincerely,
Jill

What type of barrel should I choose?

Choosing the right AR Barrel

What type of barrel should I choose? This is understandably one of the most common questions we receive.  When it comes to choosing a barrel for your AR-15, Ballistic Advantage is one of the best barrel options.  Accuracy guarantee, fit, function and price, are all right where they should be.  We understand choosing just the right barrel for your build can easily become overwhelming.  However, we think this will help you narrow down to a barrel which will fit your needs.

Material – Chrome Moly or Stainless Steel

Each material is has has different chemical elements which affect barrel life, accuracy and cost.

4150 Chrome Moly –

Steel is alloyed with other metals like Nickel and Chrome as well as other non-metals such as Carbon, Sulfur and Silicon. Each element changes the properties of the mix in order to gain desired characteristic like machinability, corrosion resistance or strength.

A major factor in metal hardness is its percentage by weight of Carbon. Metal has a crystalline structure and the small Carbon atoms find their way in-between the iron atoms when alloys are heated, strengthening the crystalline structure. By quickly cooling the heated metal the Carbon atoms are frozen in place resulting in a much stronger and harder metal.

As the name implies Chrome Moly steel has chrome as part of its alloy; about 1%. This is not enough to inhibit rust but it does increase the tensile strength combined with Carbon to around 100,000 psi and increases the yield strength in the range of 75,000 psi after proper heat treating.

416R Stainless Steel –

Stainless Steel is designed for corrosion resistance. With a much higher content of Chrome than regular steels. This Chromium forms a passive film of Chromium Oxide about the outer surface which prevents corrosion by blocking oxygen diffusion at the surface and preventing its spread into the internal structure of the metal.

416 Stainless has the ability to be heat treated due to its 1.5% by weight composition of Carbon, even more than Chrome Moly steel but its 13% Chrome composition is plenty high enough to deter any type of corrosion.

So, let’s now look at its strengths. Tensile strength of 416 Stainless falls into the 75,000 psi range and its yield a low 40,000 psi.

Stainless Steel with its additives gains a characteristic machinability factor that greatly improves surface finish. This will be the foundation of your barrel decision after reading this entire article.

How to choose..

When deciding on a Ballistic Advantage barrel, corrosion should not be a factor, even if you live in a humid or salty environment due to the fact that all of our Chrome Moly Steel rifle barrels are coated with high quality QPQ Melonite.

Many tests regarding the longevity of Alloy steel barrels versus Stainless barrels indicate CMV barrels outlast Stainless, albeit by a narrow margin.

Why would I choose an expensive Stainless barrel over a CMV?

It all depends on what type of shooting you are doing.

The machinability of Stainless Steel is much greater than that of Chrome Moly Steel.  Due to this fact the surface finishes will be much smoother and this is most important in the throat of the bore.  The throat is where fouling begins and the spread of impurities throughout the barrel. So, Stainless Steel fouls less and is easier to clean. This is why I should spend the extra money?

No, due to less fouling and better finishes the Stainless barrel is up to 30% more accurate than a CMV barrel.  The exception to this with continuous firing and heating up of the barrel.  Due to the low yield strength as stated above Stainless Steel has a much smaller effective temperature range of use. Whether it be extreme cold or high heat.

Well, guess where that leaves us. A few accurate shots very precisely placed at a reasonably controlled temperature? Competitive shooting. Stainless Steel is the hands down winner for accuracy and repeatability at a competitive shoot.

Ballistic Advantage significantly increased the accuracy of Chrome Moly barrels through the latest manufacturing techniques and optimum process control.  A Chrome Moly barrel with an effective corrosion resistant coating is your best choice barrel unless you are a competitive shooter.

Coated Cast Bullets by Shooters Precision

Go directly to the bullets!

Minimize your exposure to lead, and keep your costs down with our new lineup of Coated Hard Cast bullets manufactured by our friends at Shooters Precision.  Uncoated Hard Cast variants will be made available in February.  Shooters Precision manufacture an excellent product which we believe you’ll find great value in.

All coated cast bullets start with a solid foundation, casted from a certified 92/6/2 alloy with a Brinell Hardness of 18.  The proprietary BlackMaxx coating is a non-abrasive, heat-set coating containing no teflon, moly or polymer.  The bullets are safe for use in Glock’s polygonal riflling, and coating guaranteed never to come off.  Bullets coated in this manner virtually eliminates lead fouling, and smoke typically associated with cast bullets.  With the BlackMaxx coating, wax lube is not required as the non-abrasive coating acts as a lubricant.  Not only does that have the potential to increase muzzle velocity, but it minimizes your exposure to lead and helps keep your reloading dies and barrel cleaner, longer.

As with any product we sell here at Monmouth, we offer highly competitive pricing, and very reasonable shipping rates.  Up to 16lbs of bullets ship for under $7, and up to 70lbs ships for under $15.  We offer all of the coated cast bullets in 500 ct, 1000ct, and our Monster Box.  Monster boxes take advantage of the 70lb weight limit of the USPS Flat Rate Box.  If you’re a high volume shooter, or have a lot of friends who love to shoot, opting for the Monster Box will not only make your postman cry, but it’ll keep your unit costs down!  As my wife says, “The more you buy the more you save!”

Here’s an example using the 9mm 115gr RN bullets…

Happy Holidays from the U.S. Postal Service

Black Friday kicked off the 2015 holiday shopping season and as such, the U.S. Postal Service is doing whatever it can to keep from falling behind.  For the next month and a half, the chances of your package being delayed, or lost is far greater than any other time of the year.  However, there are ways to help keep your package on track, and avoid the stress involved with not receiving your reloading supplies on time.  Address!  The USPS must deliver to your address in order for us to get the goods to you.  Monitor your tracking numbers; if you have not received your pacakge within 4 days of receiving a shipping notification, immediately get on the phone with the USPS at 1-800-ASK-USPS and initiate a package trace.  Should a package go missing, the chances of it being found are far greater if you are proactive.  Asking a postal manager to locate a package which was last scanned at their facility, 15 days after it was initially scanned there isn’t going to make their job any easier.

The missing tracking data is clear in this second screenshot.  The customer had the impression they would receive their item within 3 days, yet it was more than 3 days until it initially appeared in tracking.   Keep in mind the USPS Priority Mail is not a guaranteed service and the Postal Service does not consider a package lost until 30 days past the shipping date!
